Mary Cox - Superintendent
Mary Cox earned her Administrative Services Credential, Master’s Degree, multiple credentials, and Bachelor’s Degree through California State University, Chico, and has worked formally in both traditional and charter school education since 2001. In 2005 Mary began working at CORE Butte Charter School, a Tk-12 public personalized learning hybrid school in Chico, Ca. Mary visioned, developed and opened a College Model hybrid high school program and served as the HS Director for several years. In 2016 she became the Superintendent/ Executive Director. Mary exudes a deep-seated passion for school choice and the advancement of educational innovation. Mary champions personalized hybrid education as the beacon guiding the future of our educational system. She works tirelessly to create programs that empower students to shape their educational journeys according to their unique interests and learning styles. Currently Mary serves as a member of the Association of Personalized Learning (APlus+) Advisory Council, a member of the California Charter Schools Association (CCSA) Member Council, Vice-Chair of the Butte/Glenn Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Chapter, a member of the Small School District’s Association (SSDA) Area of Expertise Team, and serves on the Executive Committee for the El Dorado Charter SELPA. Mary has earned several awards throughout her career with her most recent awards being 2024 Superintendent of the Year for Butte and Glenn Counties and 2024 Outstanding Woman Leader for Region 2 in California.
