Poetry Out Loud Winners

We’re so proud of our CORE Butte High School students who competed in this year’s Poetry Out Loud competitions hosted by BCOE!

6 local schools competed last Friday, November 14th at the Butte County Office of Education in Oroville. We proudly sent our two qualified students to represent us:

Carsten Balint recited
“I felt a Funeral, in my Brain” by Emily Dickinson
“Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night” by Dylan Thomas

Moriah Henderson recited
“I shall forget you presently, my dear (Sonnet IV)” by Edna St. Vincent Millay
“When We Two Parted” by George Gordon Byron

Carsten earned 3rd place overall in the county, beating out 10 other students from 6 schools!
Moriah placed 1st in the county and will advance to the State Contest in Sacramento on March 8–9, 2026!

We are incredibly proud of their hard work, talent, and dedication. Congratulations, Carsten and Moriah!
