This is the first year of a two-year algebra sequence. This is a BASIC Course and will cover half of the AGS Text in one year. - Completion of Algebra 1B (offered the following year) is required to fulfill the Algebra requirement for graduation from high school. The majority of the work will be completed in class, with supplemental worksheets to support class work. This literature-based English 12 course is designed for 12th grade students to satisfy California State Standards and provide for college preparation. The course covers the origins of the English language and many works that are considered oral traditions. An historical viewpoint of Shakespeare will be presented. An overview of all of Shakespeare's works is offered before studying two works in depth. The second semester of the course will cover Contemporary British Literature: 1800 to modern day. The students will read and discuss modern poets, playwrights, and novelists of Britain and submit written literary analyses of modern literary pieces. MLA citing of resources will be reviewed and required on extensive, structured writing assignments. Focus of the year-long study will be: vocabulary, literary analysis, structured writing, significance of literature, human impact and meaning in modern day life. Have fun and learn!! Tales of travels, food, dance, art. In this class, we will study many parts of the world that most Americans know little about and often cannot locate on a map. Students will learn the names of all of the countries in the world; they will glean a general understanding of the cultures, politics, religions, music and art from around the world. We will do art projects related to our area of study and bring in current events to have a greater understanding of the issues both politically and environmentally. We will explore how these affect us in a very global, interdependent world.

If you have ever wanted to take a lifestyle P.E. class, then this class is for you. The class is geared for those wanting to learn basic yoga movements, and strength training. The class will take time to learn how to properly execute the yoga poses to assist you when you are on your own. The class will be using terms that correspond with Kinesiology and Exercise Physiology. The yoga classes are categorized as gentle, core and beginning. The strength training is pending equipment availability. The class is offered on Tuesday and Wednesday. Laurie B. Teague is a certified yoga instructor.

This course will include the study of a variety of dances ranging from modern dance to classic ballroom. Each dance until will focus on history, kinesthetic movements, personal creativity and the knowledge of basic rhythm. Students will be required to use dance as a fitness tool as well as an expressive outlet. An overall body workout will be expressed through dance, fitness and learning about the human body. Individual, dual and group routines will be created and the basic elements of physical fitness and personal awareness will be applied. Performances and regular assessments will be given and traditional etiquette, courtesy and respect will be a cornerstone of the course.

We will be learning and using Photoshop Elements and In-Design CS3 on the iMacs to learn some very valuable graphic design production. We will also be involved in collecting ads, layout design, writing copy, and editing for the yearbook. A new part of the class will involve student-driven publishing. We will learn about blogging and other online publishing venues like podcasting. We will also be writing and producing art in class and collecting writings and art from other CORE Students for a school published magazine.
